Community Celerates Lights On 2009! Print E-mail
Children, parents, teachers and community leaders gathered on October 22 at a Lights On Afterschool celebration at Grand County Middle School to recognize the importance of afterschool programs.

Club Red, the BEACON Afterschool Program and the Tobacco Prevention Program joined with the Afterschool Alliance in this year’s Lights On Afterschool, a nationwide series of events in support of afterschool programming.  To mark the occasion supporters came together for a night of great food, crafts, games, raffles and music.

Special guests included Mayor Dave Sakrison and several afterschool program participants.   Afterschool programs currently serve over 600 youth in Moab, providing them a safe place to go after the school day ends.

Afterschool programs keep kids safe, help working families and inspire learning. According to data from the Afterschool Alliance, 14.3 million children are without adult supervision in the afternoon hours.
